新規感染者数はなかなか目に見えて減少しないが、少しずつ元の生活に戻れるようになってほしい。

New Zealand reopens to tourists, students from 60 nations, territories

New Zealand has reopened its borders to vaccinated tourists and students from 60 visa-waiver countries and territories.

New Zealand shut its border in March 2020 in principle as part of efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

It has been easing its restrictions since late February.

Starting Monday, travelers from 60 visa-waiver nations and territories, including Japan, can enter the country as long as they have a proof of vaccination with approved vaccines.

They are also required to have a negative COVID-19 pre-departure test. 

The country's largest airport, Auckland International Airport, was bustling with reunited friends and families. 

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern maintains that recovery of the country's tourism sector is indispensable in rebuilding the pandemic-hit economy.

A full-scale resumption of international tourism and business travel is expected in the near future.
